Specifically, this eco-tourism project is part of the broader master plan for eco-tourism, leisure, and recreation in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, implemented by the Park Management Board - the official forest management unit. The project has a total investment of 4.2 billion VND, based on a cooperative investment model, and will be carried out until 2030.
The project does not involve any major infrastructure construction but will include essential installations such as sun and rain shelters at camping sites, reflective ribbons to mark routes inside caves, and other minimal facilities to support visitors during their tours.

The eco-tourism tour “Exploring the Calocedrus rupestris Forest and Kling Cave” offers three itineraries: a one-day trip, a two-day-one-night trip, and a three-day-two-night trip. The routes are designed scientifically to balance adventure and convenience, ensuring visitors can explore the natural wonders without excessive travel.
According to a representative of the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee, the “Exploring the Calocedrus rupestris Forest and Kling Cave” eco-tourism project aims to effectively tap into the potential of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang World Natural Heritage Site, develop sustainable eco-tourism products, create jobs, increase local income, and contribute to the provincial budget.

Together with other tourism products, this new eco-tour promises an extraordinary experience for visitors, allowing them to witness firsthand the Calocedrus rupestris forest - a species discovered in 2004. It is an ancient, rare, and endemic conifer species found only in the evergreen tropical forests of Phong Nha-Ke Bang and nowhere else in the world.
| Calocedrus rupestris is a large, evergreen conifer with a wide canopy and reproduces through seeds. It represents one of the most unique forest habitats due to its global ecological importance and conservation value. The species is listed as endangered in the IUCN Red List. Today, Calocedrus rupestris trees are concentrated mainly in limestone mountain areas within the strictly protected core zone of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, covering over 5,000 hectares. The existence of this ancient and endemic species is a scientific testament to the park’s pristine and unique biodiversity. |
