The event featured the participation of six groups of writers from the six countries of the Mekong sub-region.
According to Poet Huu Thinh, President of Vietnam Union of Literary and Arts Associations and chairman of the Vietnam Writer Association, the Mekong River Literature Prize was established in 2007 through an initiative suggested by the Writers Association of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, aiming to enhance the friendly relations and cooperation of the writers whose countries’ borderlines are shared with the Mekong River.
The award ceremony is annually held annually and the six countries take turns to host the event, and at least two of the best writers from each country are chosen to receive an award.
The Mekong River Literature Award truly is a symbol of the solidarity and friendship between the literary associations in the region, and is consistent with the trend of exchange, cooperation, and dialogue between the cultures, while fully unifying all of the countries in the Mekong river basin./.
