WVIV Spreads Message “Not Alone” to Protect Children in Cyberspace

The Cyber ​​Safety Project (SISC) under the World Vision International in Vietnam (WVIV) on November 8 coordinated with Luan Thanh Secondary School (based on Luan Thanh commune, Thanh Hoa province) and local authorities to organize an event in response to the “Not Alone” campaign to spread the message “Together to protect children in cyberspace”.

The “Not Alone” campaign is initiated by the Digital Trust Alliance under the auspices of UNODC, UNICEF, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Hanoi People’s Committee, the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention, and the National Cybersecurity Association.

During the program, Lieutenant Colonel Le Cong Chinh, Deputy Head of Luan Thanh Commune Police, recalled real-life cases of online fraud and child abuse in the area and advised students to be alert and cautious when interacting online. He also shared specific measures to help students respond to some tricks of fake information or online kidnapping, helping children identify risks and better protect themselves in the online environment.

Students also participated in a series of experiential activities such as QUIZ games on network safety skills; scenario plays and practice handling risky situations in the online environment; debates and counter-arguments on topics related to identifying and responding to risks online, among others.

Speaking at the program, Principal Pham Van Thuc emphasized that in the digital age, the Internet brings many learning opportunities, exploring and connecting, but at the same time, it also contains many potential risks such as fraud, bullying, abuse or exposure to harmful content.

"Many students sometimes feel confused, worried, or lonely when encountering problems online without knowing who to share with. Therefore, the message of the "Not alone" campaign is truly humane and practical," he added.

He believes that the campaign not only helps students identify risks but also encourages them to boldly seek support from teachers, family, friends or people they trust. With the support of schools, parents and the community, each student will become a smart, kind and loving digital citizen.

Nguyen Thi Ha, Cyber ​​Safety Project Manager, further highlighted that the Internet opens up great opportunities for learning, creativity and connection, but also poses many challenges for children, a group of people who are developing both psychologically and cognitively. “Today's event is a reminder that in cyberspace, no one has to face risks alone. When you encounter situations that make you worried or scared, remember that there are always teachers, parents, friends, and us - the WVIV organization ready to listen and support,” she said.

Through the project, WVIV aims to help students, teachers, and parents understand the benefits, risks and challenges of cyberspace; improve their ability to recognize and respond to online risks; and work with the community to build a healthy, positive and safe online environment.
