4300 stranded overseas Vietnamese to be repatriated on special flights

Each flight is expected to have 150-343 passengers on board.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Vietnam is currently discussing the repatriation with several airlines, but most of them would be operated by national carrier Vietnam Airlines, Vnexpress reported, citing a representative of Civil Aviation Authority.
These flights would land in Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, HCMC's Tan Son Nhat Airport, the Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh or the Can Tho International Airport in the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho City.
The exact schedules and additional details would be informed to passengers following approval from the National Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19 and authorization by relevant countries and territories.
The second Vietnam Airlines flight will repatriate around 300 Vietnamese citizens from the US this Friday, following its landmark flight on May 8 as the first time a Vietnamese carrier conducts direct route to the US.
In April and May Vietnam has operated special flights to repatriate thousands of people from Southeast Asian countries as well as Canada, France, Japan, the UAE and the U.S. Passengers paid their own fares and were put into centralized isolation centers after landing Vietnam.
As of May 15, Vietnam’s Ministry of Health confirmed a total of 312 cases of COVID-19. However, 260 of the affected patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. The latest 24 cases were all imported Vietnamese nationals on a repatriation flight from Moscow and were put in quarantine on arrival.
