Ambassador Nicolai Prytz Leaves Strong Imprint on Viet Nam-Denmark Cooperation and People-to-People Exchange

According to a report by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, during his tenure in Viet Nam from 2022 to the present, Ambassador Nicolai Prytz has actively coordinated and successfully organized numerous delegation exchanges and high-level engagements between the two countries.

In the field of energy cooperation and sustainable development, the Ambassador has promoted and deepened the implementation of the Green Strategic Partnership (GSP) framework between the two countries; supported the implementation of the Viet Nam-Denmark Energy Partnership Programme (DEPP3). He has led numerous delegations of leading Danish energy enterprises such as Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Vestas, and Ørsted to conduct field surveys and working visits in various localities across Viet Nam, aiming to promote renewable energy projects, particularly offshore wind power.
In the fields of public governance, digital transformation, and civil servant training, the Ambassador has contributed to concretizing cooperation content on public policy and modern governance; supported the implementation of several investment projects by Danish enterprises in Viet Nam; and promoted investment in localities in areas such as high technology, port infrastructure, and healthcare.
In the area of people-to-people diplomacy, Ambassador Nicolai Prytz has coordinated with the Viet Nam-Denmark Friendship Association to organize the annual international children’s drawing contest “Denmark in your eyes.” The contest attracts nationwide participation from students (reaching approximately 130,000 entries in 2026), contributing to enhancing understanding and connections between the young generations of the two countries, while also spreading messages on environmental protection and sustainable development.
The Ambassador has actively participated in and promoted community, environmental protection, and humanitarian activities, notably including direct participation in a beach clean-up in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province (former province) on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025; promoting Danish literary works, specifically the novel “Ghosts Return” by author Thomas Bo Pedersen in Viet Nam in January 2026; and committing to donating all proceeds from the book to support victims of Agent Orange.

Speaking at the medal presentation ceremony, President Phan Anh Son expressed gratitude to Ambassador Nicolai Prytz and staff of the Embassy of Denmark in Viet Nam for their active coordination with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Viet Nam-Denmark Friendship Association in promoting relations between the two countries, particularly through the channel of people-to-people diplomacy.
On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Denmark, Phan Anh Son expressed his expectation that the relations between the two countries will continue to be strengthened and developed. The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Viet Nam-Denmark Friendship Association wish to continue cooperating with the Embassy of Denmark in organizing seminars, workshops, experience-sharing activities, and cultural-artistic cooperation.
Phan Anh Son stated that the presentation of the “For peace and friendship among nations” Medal - the highest award of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for international friends - aims to recognize the Ambassador’s positive contributions to relations between the peoples of the two countries. He expressed his hope that Ambassador Nicolai Prytz will continue to pay attention to and contribute to the development of Viet Nam-Denmark friendship relations.
Ambassador Nicolai Prytz expressed his honor in receiving the medal and stated that during his tenure in Viet Nam, he has made efforts to promote cooperation across multiple fields.
The Ambassador emphasized the importance of people-to-people diplomacy, viewing people-to-people exchanges as the “glue” that binds relations between the two countries. He affirmed that he will continue to maintain connections and contribute to Viet Nam-Denmark friendship relations in the future, regardless of his position.
