The 17th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education (SOMED 17) is the initial activity in a series of crucial meetings of ASEAN education organized by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam in which it took over the chairmanship for 2022.

At the meeting, representatives of education officials from ASEAN countries discussed 20 agenda items to submit to the 12th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting for consideration and approval.

Some noticeable contents mentioned at the meeting:

Cooperating on interdisciplinary issues;

Updating the progress on implementation of ASEAN work on education in the period of 2021-2025;

Coordinating the ASEAN secretariat and SEAMEO;

Announcing the digital transformation of the education system in ASEAN countries;

Encouraging learning and restoring education;

University education;

Displaying initiatives in supporting ASEAN countries in human resource development in the context of the changing job market.

The contents discussed at the 17th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education are expected to further strengthen the educational partnership among ASEAN member states, thereby promoting educational cooperation in the region, which lay the foundation for more advanced and sustainable education.

After the 17th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc will continue to chair the 12th ASEAN+3 Education Senior Officials Meeting and the ASEAN-EAS Education Senior Officials Meeting, which will be held on October 12.
