Australian Veteran’s Son Returns Diary of Vietnamese Martyr

According to information in the diary, martyr Vo Van Cong was born in 1944 in Phuoc Tho Commune, Nhon Trach District, Bien Hoa Province, now part of Dong Nai Province. He joined the revolutionary movement in April 1961, became a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam in May 1962, and once served as Secretary of the District Youth Union.

Glenn Mathews said he discovered the diary among the belongings left by his father after his passing and decided to return it to the Embassy of Vietnam in the hope that the family of martyr Vo Van Cong would be able to receive this keepsake.
The Embassy of Vietnam in Australia stated that the return of the diary reflects respect for the family of the fallen Vietnamese soldier and contributes to fostering friendship between the peoples of the two countries. The Embassy is coordinating with relevant authorities in Vietnam to locate the martyr’s relatives as soon as possible to return the keepsake.
