Books to Raise Awareness of National Sovereignty over Seas and Islands

Six books about the homeland's sea and islands not only spread patriotism, but also contribute to raising the awareness of protecting national sovereignty for most Vietnamese people and the international community.

Recently, Information and Communication Publishing House has launched a set of 6 books about Vietnam's seas and islands.

Proceedings of Hoang Sa

The book was compiled by the People's Committee of Hoang Sa district, Da Nang city in collaboration with famous scholars, historians and historical witnesses. The book consists of 4 main parts:

The first part about Vietnam's sovereignty over Hoang Sa begins with a picture of a sovereign stele inscribed in French: “French Republic - Dai Nam Kingdom. Paracel Islands 1816”. A speech by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is also mentioned in this part, affirming: “The people of Vietnam, the country of Vietnam has strong will, determination and synergy of the whole nation to preserve and protect its seas and islands”. This part also includes a series of general documents confirming the geographical position, natural conditions, the presence of the people and the long-standing and continuous occupation of Vietnam over the Hoang Sa archipelago.

State management over the Hoang Sa archipelago is mentioned in the second section, which systematizes documents on state management of the Hoang Sa archipelago before and after 1975. Notably, many rare and important documents are published for the first time. In addition, 40 selected photos are included, reflecting the activities towards the sea and islands of the homeland of Hoang Sa district officials and people.

The third part refers to Hoang Sa district and historical witnesses, gathering images and autographs of 24 historical and contemporary witnesses who used to live and fight on the land and sea of Hoang Sa.

The final section shares feelings of Da Nang people about Hoang Sa, which are expressed in a rustic, sincere and profound way: "Hoang Sa is always in my heart", "Hoang Sa and Truong Sa forever belong to our beloved S-shaped strip of land”, “Hoang Sa belongs to Vietnam”, “Hoang Sa is always in the heart and will be in the hands of the Vietnamese people”, etc.

Vietnam’s Territory: History and Legality

The book includes knowledge about Vietnam's territory, division of borders and territories, current status of land and sea borders, especially thoroughly discusses the South China Sea issue and disputes. Through the lens of international law, the author has shed light on complicated issues in the South China Sea, assisting research and advisory agencies in handling specific situations and complex disputes. At the same time, the book provides the public a comprehensive view to consolidate understanding of the nature of disputes, raise awareness and minimize misjudgments.

The South China Sea in Perspective of Global Scholars

The book consists of two parts, selecting the research works of many scholars around the world.

In the first part about Geopolitics of the East Sea, the obligations, interests and strategies of the relevant parties, the authors present the impact of geographical factors on the behavior of states in the South China Sea and international relations, analyze the political situation in the Indo-Pacific region, China's moves, and the importance of the South China Sea in trade in the Asia-Pacific region. Readers will better understand the interests and strategies of Japan, India, Russia and Indonesia in the South China Sea. Besides, the role of the world's largest trading bloc, the European Union (EU) in the South China Sea security hotspot, is also an intriguing topic.

Come to Truong Sa

The "Truong Sa - such a sacred and beautiful place of Vietnam" photo project has been carried out by the Navy and Vietnam News Agency since March 2012.

The Vietnamese-English bilingual photo book was published by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Commission for Propaganda and Education of the Party's Central Committee, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, the Navy Command, and the Vietnam News Agency.
