World Vision Vietnam handed over 140 breeding cows with an approximate value of VND 10 million each to 140 households in 7 communes of Phuoc Son District, Quang Nam Province.

This March, within the framework of the the Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA) - funded Relief Response and Recovery Project, World Vision Vietnam has handed over 140 breeding cows with an approximate value of VND 10 million (USD 433) each to 140 households in seven communes of Phuoc Son District, Quang Nam Province.

The total value of this distribution was up to USD 57,327.

With a budget of USD 573,853, this project is implemented by World Vision Vietnam in four districts in Quang Nam Province - Nam Tra My, Nong Son, Phuoc Son, and Nam Giang with three main components - food aid/ livelihood, WASH and shelter.

During the project implementation period from November 2020 to May 2021, World Vision Vietnam will support the recovery of 17,537 people affected by the Molave typhoon, and conduct housing repairs for 400 households in Nam Tra My, Nong Son, and Phuoc Son Districts, Quang Nam Province.

Vietnam typically endures between five and six storms and about three tropical depressions a year, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, but in 2020 a total of at least 14 ravaged the country. Seven consecutive tropical storms and cyclones hit the central region between October and mid-November.

World Vision Vietnam distributed essential household kits and hygiene kits to respectively 1,169 and 1,200 households affected by floods and storms in Minh Long District, Quang Ngai Province.

Typhoon Molave was one of the most devastating typhoons making landfall in Vietnam in decades. The typhoon made landfall after a series of tropical storms hitting Vietnam and had caused severe flooding and at least three landslides which tragically resulted in the loss of 40 lives. 44 people are still missing, and six people are severely injured.

Elsewhere, as part of the aid project from the Hong Kong Government, World Vision Vietnam distributed essential household kits and hygiene kits to respectively 1,169 and 1,200 households affected by floods and storms in Minh Long District, Quang Ngai Province. The total value of this distribution was up to more than USD 121,644.

This activity belongs to World Vision Vietnam's Response and Early Recovery Program in response to the widespread flooding and landslides caused by the recurrent rains and typhoons in Central Vietnam.

With a budget of more than USD 1.4 milion, this program aims to address the most urgent needs with life-saving assistance and speed up life building process for more than 10,000 most vulnerable households in the affected areas of Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai Provinces.

According to the UN, an estimated 7.7 million people in nine provinces, including 2.5 million children, were affected – with hundreds of thousands of houses flooded, damaged or destroyed./.
