Ambassador Pham Hung Tam met with the leadership team of the Southeast Asia Center at the University of Sydney at the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia on November 28.

Ambassador Pham Hung Tam received the leadership of the Southeast Asia Center at the University of Sydney.

Professor Gregory Fox, Director of the Southeast Asia Center, presented the achievements of the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute (USVI) in recent years. The USVI has established branches in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Can Tho, with plans to expand its activities to Hue, An Giang, and Ca Mau.

Beyond healthcare, the USVI expressed its desire to strengthen research and training collaboration with Vietnamese partners in other areas such as agriculture, science and technology, and climate change. The institute is also exploring enhanced 2+2 linkages between the University of Sydney and Vietnamese universities, allowing Vietnamese students to study for two years in Vietnam and two years at the University of Sydney.

Professor Tiho Ancev, Deputy Director of Research Development, proposed building knowledge partnerships between educational institutions in both countries, including joint research initiatives to benefit communities in Vietnam and Australia.

Professor Gregory Fox emphasized that the University of Sydney, part of Australia's Group of Eight (G8) leading universities, actively supports creating opportunities for international students, including those from Vietnam, to study in Australia.

Ambassador Pham Hung Tam commended the educational and training cooperation between the two nations, recognizing it as a priority in their bilateral relationship and an area of great interest for Vietnamese leaders. He reiterated the focus on priority fields such as low-carbon agriculture, science and technology, and climate change.

Both national and local leaders in Vietnam, as well as its universities, have shown keen interest in educational collaboration and research exchanges with Australian partners.
