First Vietnamese Sports Festival In Kitakyushu is a Great Success

On May 22, at Onga Sports Center, (Fukuoka, Japan) the Vietnamese Association in Kitakyushu (VAK) successfully organized the final round of the first Vietnamese Sports Festival in Kitakyushu 2022.

Thanks to the encouragement, facilitation, and support of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, the valuable sponsorship and enthusiastic support of the Japanese community and friends, the Executive Committee of VAK organized for the first time a large-scale sports festival, competing in football, table tennis, badminton and tug of war.

The festival gathered more than 500 athletes and thousands of spectators from the qualifying rounds.

Participants in the festival include Vietnamese students, trainees, engineers, and employees in schools and companies in Kitakyushu. It also attracted people from neighboring provinces such as Kumamoto, Yamaguchi, Kumamoto and even young people from Japan, Indonesia, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Along with sports activities, festival created more attraction for participants by organizing a number of stalls serving Vietnamese food.

Attending the opening ceremony of the final round of the competition were leaders of the Consulate General, leaders of Fukuoka province, representatives of Kitakyushu city leaders, and representatives of a number of Vietnamese associations in the Kyushu region.

Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting (KBC) and Nishinihon shinbun sent reporters to report and picture activities of the Games.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the final round, Ms. Ta Minh Thu, President of VAK, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Sports Festival, emphasized that this event aimed to create a healthy and useful playground for those who were sports enthusiasts. It also contributed to strengthening exchanges and solidarity in the Vietnamese community in Kitakyushu and the surrounding areas.

Ms. Thu expressed her hope that through this event, organizers could learn a lot from experience and turn this festival into an annual event serving the needs of the community with sports, cultural activities to connect the community in the coming time.

On this occasion, Ms. Thu shared that the Executive Committee and the Organizing Committee of VAK wished to receive the support of the Consulate General to organize the next one.

At the event, Vietnamese Consul General Vu Binh thanked the cooperation and support of the government and functional agencies, organizations, businesses, and schools in Fukuoka province, Kitakyushu and Kyushu region for the festival. The Consul General especially thanked the attendance of Vice Chairman of Fukuoka Prefectural Council Nieda Genki.

Mr. Vu Binh emphasized that all of these showed sympathy for Vietnamese people studying and working in Japan. This is the support for them to have a stable life in Japan and a great encouragement for Vietnamese people in the consular area.

Consul General Vu Binh assessed that with the scale, nature, preparation process and organization method, the 1st Vietnamese Sports Festival in Kitakyushu 2022 became a large-scale sporting event. It was held in the consular area and attract participation in the community and great attention of the local public.

Praising the Organizing Committee of the Congress, Mr. Vu Binh affirmed that the Consulate General would always support, advise and directly participate in meaningful activities to build a strong, united and developed Vietnamese community. It also contributed to enhancing exchanges, building friendships, spreading positive energy among Vietnamese youth to each other and to Japan.

Vice Chairman of Fukuoka Provincial Council Nieda Genki said that he attended the Vietnam New Year Festival in Fukuoka (January 1, 2022, with about 17,000 participants) but was still surprised at the scale and professionalism, and the number of spectators of this event.

Mr. Nieda Genki congratulated the Consulate General of Vietnam and the Organizing Committee for creating a healthy and useful playground for the Vietnamese community and committed he would do his best to build a favorable living environment for foreigners, including local Vietnamese.

The Vietnamese association in the Japanese city of Kitakyushu was founded in December 2021, representing nearly 3,000 Vietnamese expats living here.

The Congress voted to approve the official establishment of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Kitakyushu and elected the Executive Committee of the association, including 13 people. Ms. Ta Minh Thu, a Vietnamese person who has lived, studied and worked in the city for more than 10 years, was elected as the President of the association. In particular, the Executive Committee of the Association has the participation of two Japanese honorary members.

Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka Vu Binh expected the association would have meaningful activities not only for the local community but also the homeland and contribute to further strengthening the bilateral ties between Kitakyushu and Hai Phong – its Vietnamese twin city, and Vietnam and Japan at large.
