Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan |
First, we have to expand our operations and take advantage of new parners such as businesses, young people, which are very important. In the past, we often associate with mass organizations but not with these subjects.
Secondly, the content must be diversified. We mainly mobilising the political support but the current people-to-people activities now involves all political, economic, cultural, social and cultural fields, even cuisine. The form of activity is also broader.
Thirdly, a broader list of areas where we should cooperate. In the past, we focused mainly on socialist countries, independent nations, progressive movements arround the world. Now, this list has to expand.
Also, now people from all different walks of life participating in the people-to-people’s activities. In the past, ordinary people did not participate much but mainly organizations. Now, a person traveling abroad is also representing Vietnam, an ambassador for the country. In contrast, every foreign visitors visit our country also interact with people from every walk of life. If people are conscious of participating in building mutual understanding, we will achieve tremendous results.
Moreover, in the relations between countries, we have official channel between states. But with that channel, sensitive issues are not easy to discuss, people usually open up informal channel between peoples. Through this channel, peoples from different nations can learn each other views and positions as well as at the same time, convey their opinions and stances without being bound by principles. This is a very new effect of people-to-people's activities that we must take advantage.
