German Tourists Fall in Love with Vietnamese Cuisine on 5-Star Train to Da Nang
	German Ambassador Hails Vietnam's Strong Development

Two young students, 14-year-old N.T.Hang, and 12-year-old N.P.Nhi, from Dong Ha city of Quang Tri province, on September 4 received the “Supporting Students to School” scholarship from Project RENEW, a meaningful gift from the Germany-Vietnam Friendship Association (GVFA).

Hang and Nhi are sisters and the daughters of Nguyen Khac Thuong, a survivor of unexploded ordnance in Dong Le Ward, Dong Ha city. In 1989, a landmine accident left Thuong blind in one eye and significantly impaired his ability to work. As a member of the Dong Ha Blind Association, Thuong makes incense to earn an additional income of about VND 2 million (USD 80.7) per month. Meanwhile, his wife, Phan Thi An, sells goods on her electric bicycle. On a good day, she can earn VND 200,000 (USD 8.07). With such an unstable monthly income, Thuong’s family struggles to make ends meet.

The scholarship awarded to Hang and Nhi by Project RENEW is worth VND 8 million (approx. USD 322). Despite their family’s difficult circumstances, Hang and Nhi have always been excellent students at Phan Dinh Phung Secondary School. This special gift will double their joy as they attend the school’s September 5 opening ceremony.

Their mother, Phan Thi A, happily shared that the scholarship will help cover the costs of buying school supplies and other fees at the beginning of the new school year. “This is also a significant motivation for our family to overcome difficulties and improve our lives,” she said.

Every year, the Germany-Vietnam Friendship Association organizes a trip to Vietnam, including a visit to the Quang Tri Mine Action Center. They visit and donate a sum of money to support a family of mine victims while Project RENEW surveys and selects the recipients. The abovementioned gift was given to Project RENEW when the delegation arrived in Quang Tri in November 2023.

In 2024, the Germany-Vietnam Friendship Association also plans to visit Project RENEW again, expected at the end of this year.
