Gia Lai Province Expands Comprehensive Cooperation with Provinces in Laos and Cambodia

Gia Lai Province recently hosted a cooperation signing conference with four Southern Lao provinces (Attapeu, Champasak, Salavan, Sekong) and three northeastern Cambodian provinces (Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear) for the 2026-2030 period.

During the 2021-2025 period, regarding education and training with Southern Laos, Gia Lai awarded 320 scholarships and maintained an average of over 100 Laotian students annually. In trade and investment, 15 provincial enterprises operated in Laos with a total capital of over US $595.3 million. Cooperation in science, technology, agriculture, and healthcare was bolstered through technical transfers, professional training, and equipment support. Defense and social welfare ties were also strengthened through medical outreach and the construction of "friendship works" totaling nearly VND 116 billion.

Cooperation with the northeastern Cambodian provinces was prominent. The two sides maintained regular exchanges, with 36 delegations from Gia Lai and 44 delegations from Cambodia conducting official visits. Regarding trade and investment, import-export turnover reached US $815.13 million. Furthermore, 15 enterprises from Gia Lai implemented 19 projects in Cambodia, representing a total registered investment capital of more than US $913 million.

Operations at the Le Thanh International Border Gate remained seamless 24/7, supported by annual border markets. Currently, 110 vehicles in Gia Lai are licensed for Vietnam-Cambodia cross-border transport. Local medical facilities have also treated numerous Cambodian patients. Additionally, the parties collaborated to search for and repatriate 84 sets of remains of fallen soldiers from Cambodia. The partnership also maintains twinning programs for five border residential clusters to ensure close coordination in border management and protection.

Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Thai Dai Ngoc urged that, following the conference, all parties must promptly translate the signed content into concrete annual plans. He emphasized promoting trade, investment, and import-export activities via the Le Thanh - Oyadav border gate in connection with logistics development. He also called for enhanced border protection, expanded cross-sector cooperation, and strengthened people-to-people exchanges.

At the conclusion of the two sessions, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee officially signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for cooperation for the 2026-2030 phase with the provincial governments of Attapeu, Champasack, Salavan, and Sekong (Laos), as well as Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri, and Stung Treng (Cambodia).
