UN Women Encourages Sports Investment for a Brighter Future for Girls
	Replicate Girls Club Model to Equip Ethnic Minority Female Students with Life Skills

Celebrating this International Day of the Girls, Ha Anh, a 20-year-old law student in Hanoi, had a chance to take over the role of the Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam from Ambassador Johan Ndisi, experiencing what a day of an ambassador was like and participating in a meaningful discussion with the Ambassador over the topic of empowering girls and young women in leadership.

“Girl Takeover 2024 showcases the incredible potential of girls and young women to lead and instigate positive change. This platform gives us a voice to address challenges and advocate for meaningful solutions. We’re just getting started!” Ha Anh shared at the end of the day.

Swedish Ambassador Johan Ndisi emphasized Sweden’s strong commitment to gender equality. “By supporting the next generation of female leaders, we aim to break down traditional gender norms. When a girl is empowered, she not only changes her own life but also uplifts her family and community.”

He further stated Sweden is ranked as the second most innovative country in the world, and good working conditions for women are key for this to be the case. When discussing equality, it’s vital to remember that 50% of the population cannot be subjects; they must be active participants and leaders.”

Research shows that when young women are given the chance to realize their potential, they inspire others, create collective strength, and contribute to more resilient economies.

Migena Shulla, country director of Plan International Vietnam, echoed this sentiment. “Empowering young people is essential for long-term, sustainable solutions. Initiatives like Girl Takeover amplify their voices and equip them to effect real change. When girls are involved in decision-making, they bring unique perspectives that are crucial for creating a more equitable and resilient society.”

As Vietnam faces rising climate challenges such as sea-level rise and natural disasters, the need for female leadership in climate resilience and sustainability is becoming increasingly urgent. Women's participation in climate action has proven critical in helping communities adapt, mitigate risks, and thrive in the face of environmental changes.
