"All restaurants with a capacity of over 30 people across the 24 districts of the city must cease operations from 18:00 March 24, until the end of March 31," the city's People’s Committee said in a statement.
In a notice sent to districts and relevant departments, the municipal People’s Committee also asked beer clubs, barber shops and gyms to suspend operations during the period.
HCM City has recorded over 40 cases of the virus, most of which were imported from Europe, and has already closed cinemas, bars, dance halls, theatres, massage parlours and karaoke lounges from March 15 until the end of the month.
The HCM City Department of Health has advised people against going out and gathering but seriously following precautionary measures set by the city.
The city has also suggested the elderly and sick people have their health monitored.
In mid-February, Vietnam had previously reported only 16 cases despite bordering China - the epicentre of the global outbreak, but it has since been battling with an influx of imported cases from overseas visitors and Vietnamese citizens returned from abroad.
So far, there are now 134 cases in Vietnam, but no reported deaths, according to the health ministry.
The next 10-15 days will be decisive in Vietnam's fight against the coronavirus, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on Monday while chairing the meeting between the Government’s permanent members and the national steering committee for the COVID-19 fight./.
