Referring to the statement of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man during his visit to Italy last April, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Van Bay said that Vietnam and Italy not only “move quickly" but also "move steadily, go far, and move together”.

The cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Italian partners has much potential to develop, especially in areas such as finance, green industry, renewable energy, logistics, innovation, and climate change response.

Besides established partnerships with Torino, the Emilia-Romagna region, and Veneto, Ho Chi Minh City is also promoting cooperation with Milan in wastewater management and urban flood control. The city also aims to expand Italian language instruction, enhance exchanges of students, lecturers, and experts, and collaborate on cultural, artistic, culinary, fashion, sports, and tourism exchanges.

He also noted that Ho Chi Minh City will always create favorable conditions for the Italian Consulate General and the Italian business community to continue operating effectively and making positive contributions to the Ho Chi Minh City - Italy relationship in particular and the Vietnam - Italy Strategic Partnership in general.

Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City Alessandra Tognonato shared that June 2, 1946, is a significant historical milestone, marking the birth of the modern Republic of Italy. With 870 Italian citizens currently living in Ho Chi Minh City, the community accounts for approximately two-thirds of the Italian population in Vietnam.

"Through their daily contributions, this community has helped to strengthen Italy's image and build increasingly strong ties between the people of the two countries," said Alessandra Tognonato.

Assessing bilateral relations as entering a deeper and more substantive phase of development, the Italian Consul General stated that bilateral economic cooperation continues to be a highlight. Bilateral trade turnover is projected to reach US $8 billion in 2025 and continue to grow significantly in the first months of 2026. Specifically, trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and its Italian partners is expected to exceed US $800 million in 2025.

Currently, Italy has 92 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Ho Chi Minh City with a total registered capital of approximately US $279 million. Also, many cooperation programs are effectively implemented in the fields of diplomacy, space science and technology, geological research, culture, and sports.

“The two countries have different historical paths, but are both driven by a strong desire for freedom and self-determination. That is why Italy has always held Vietnam in high regard and with genuine friendship,” Alessandra Tognonato noted.

The celebration is not only an opportunity to look back on the cooperation between the two countries but also opens new expectations in transforming knowledge, creativity, and cooperation potential into practical and sustainable results, contributing to further deepening the Vietnam-Italy Strategic Partnership in the coming time.
