The painting measures 2.4m x 15.3m, depicting images of butterflies, sugarcane, Cuba's national flower, lotus flowers, bamboo, Vietnamese areca trees, One Pillar Pagoda, and Cuba's Revolution Square. Thereby, it sends a message that the Vietnam-Cuba friendship goes beyond the political sphere.

According to Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper, speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Loc Ha, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, stated that the mural is a story told through images and colors about the special relationship between Vietnam and Cuba. The image of the two intertwined Vietnamese and Cuban flags forms the heart of the artwork, symbolizing a close brotherhood that has together overcome the harsh challenges of history.
He expressed his gratitude to the Cuban Consulate General for facilitating the creation of this meaningful work and praised the students of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts for producing a valuable cultural heritage that contributes to enriching the journey of Vietnam-Cuba relations.
According to Ariadne Feo Labrada, Consul General of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City, the mural was first inaugurated in 2022 as a message of friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, and is now being renewed to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

She affirmed that, despite the geographical distance, Cuba and Vietnam are connected by cultural, historical, soil, and many other factors.
"I am sure that the residents of Ho Chi Minh City and tourists will love this work. Many people will come to take pictures in front of the wall every day. We want to dedicate the mural to the heroes, the young people, and all the people of the two countries, with the hope of contributing to raising cultural and historical awareness between generations of Cuba and Vietnam", she said.
Ho Chi Minh City strengthens multifaceted cooperation with CubaPreviously, on September 5, Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, received Víctor Fidel Gaute López, Vice President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), on the occasion of the Cuban delegation’s visit to Vietnam and their participation in the 80th anniversary of Independence Day on September 2. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee’s website, during the meeting, Duong Anh Duc expressed his appreciation for the special affection the Cuban people have shown toward Vietnam, both during the struggle for national liberation and in the ongoing process of national construction and development. He affirmed that the Vietnamese people, including those in Ho Chi Minh City, always remember and are grateful for Cuba’s loyal solidarity. He noted that Ho Chi Minh City, as the country’s economic locomotive, wishes to strengthen cooperation with Cuban localities, particularly in the fields of health and education. Recently, the City signed a medical cooperation agreement with Cuba and is actively promoting educational collaboration. Bilateral trade turnover in 2024 increased by 9.8% compared to 2023 and is forecast to continue rising in 2025. Duong Anh Duc added that Vietnam has launched the program “65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship,” which has received strong support from the people of Ho Chi Minh City in particular, and the Vietnamese people in general, reflecting their deep attachment to Cuba. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations will continue to grow following recent visits by leaders of both countries. Víctor Fidel Gaute López was moved by the deep affection of the Vietnamese people, including those in Ho Chi Minh City, for Cuba. He highly appreciated the City’s role, development potential, and heroic revolutionary tradition. He also shared his special impressions of the recent 80th Independence Day celebration on September 2, especially the massive public participation, which demonstrated the spirit of solidarity and strength of Vietnam. |
