Ho Chi Minh City Outlines Four Focuses to Strengthen People-to-people Diplomacy

The program commemorates the 50th anniversary of Saigon-Gia Dinh officially being renamed Ho Chi Minh City in honor of President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026). Through light, music, and cutting-edge technology, the performance retraced the city's journey of formation and development over the past five decades.

The show was divided into three chapters. The opening chapter, "Reminiscence," revisited iconic architectural landmarks, milestones that laid the foundation for the city's growth, and the pride inspired by the creativity and resilience of its people throughout 50 years of reconstruction and renewal.

The second chapter, "Takeoff," portrayed the city's dynamic transformation through advances in the economy, science and technology, and innovation. Illuminated streets, bustling urban life, and soaring modern architecture reflected the image of a youthful, pioneering city that continues to move forward.

The final chapter, "Reflection," brought an emotional touch by featuring familiar Vietnamese symbols such as conical hats, bicycles, and childhood kites. Reimagined through modern visual art, these everyday images highlighted the city's cultural depth, peaceful spirit, and the warmth and generosity of the people of Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City.

A distinctive feature of the event was the use of the People's Committee headquarters itself as the projection surface. Millions of moving light points synchronized with music created a layered visual experience that not only impressed audiences artistically but also conveyed the city's identity, memories, and aspirations for future development.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasized that the 50 years since the city was named after President Ho Chi Minh have been marked by continuous transformation. From the hardships of the post-war period, Ho Chi Minh City has grown into a civilized, modern, and compassionate metropolis, serving as one of Vietnam's leading centers for economy, finance, trade, culture, science and technology, and innovation.

According to the organizers, the 3D mapping light show was held simultaneously at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters in Sai Gon Ward, the Reunification Hall in Ben Thanh Ward, the New City Center in Binh Duong Ward, and Tam Thang Tower Square in Vung Tau Ward. These venues are key locations in a series of cultural and artistic events celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City bearing the name of President Ho Chi Minh.
