Also part of the "Lighting the Sea with Fishermen" initiative, 20 scholarships worth approximately VND 3 million each were awarded to children of fishermen from disadvantaged backgrounds who have overcome difficulties to excel academically.
According to the organizers, Hue is the 23rd locality nationwide to host this program. Having traveled through 22 provinces and cities, the program has carried out numerous awareness-raising activities to help fishermen understand and comply with laws on legal seafood exploitation, thereby contributing to efforts to remove the IUU “yellow card” and to promote both fishermen’s livelihoods and the development of the marine economy.
To date, the program has delivered more than 3,800 gifts to outstanding and struggling fishermen, as well as hundreds of scholarships to their children. In collaboration with healthcare facilities, it has also provided free medical check-ups and medicine to over 2,000 residents across various provinces.

Aside from gifting and scholarship activities, the program continues to raise legal awareness about lawful seafood harvesting, aligning with the sustainable marine economic development strategy set out in the national plan for marine aquaculture through 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The organizers hope that these activities will not only improve fishermen's quality of life and raise legal awareness as they head offshore, but also join forces with localities and relevant sectors to expedite the removal of the EC's “yellow card” on Vietnam’s seafood sector.
