In November and December, the 2015 program on humanitarian blood donation and medical check-ups will be held across 23 provinces and cities across the country, said Dao Thanh Tam, Deputy Secretary-General of the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) during an interview granted for the Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

According to Ms Tam, the program aims to receive 5,000 units of blood and give free medical check-ups and medicine to 2,000 people. The poor who generally have less access to medical services, particularly those in remote areas will benefit most from the program.

In addition, the program will cover other practical activities, including giving medical insurance cards, presents, TVs, cows and houses to disadvantaged families while strictly working with local authorities to give further support to poor families.

“In cities, the program will offer meals for patients and their relatives in hospitals to support their medical treatment costs,” said Ms Tam.

This year, the program, jointly held by the VRC and Prudential Vietnam Assurance Ltd, was launched on November 7^th in Hanoi.

In 2014, the program was organised for the first time, giving free medical check-ups to 8,300 poor people in 20 provinces and cities, and collecting over 7,500 units of blood for first-aid in medical foundations./.
