In Da Nang, the University of Foreign Language Studies (University of Da Nang) is scheduled to host the program “Tet in me 2026” on January 30 for both Vietnamese and international students studying at the university.
According to the university, through cultural exchanges, culinary activities, folk games, and artistic performances, international students will have opportunities to learn about Vietnamese Tet customs while practicing Vietnamese in a real-life social environment. It is expected that university leaders will present Tet gifts to students who are far from home and to international students participating in the program.

Earlier, on January 22, the University of Education (University of Da Nang) organized its annual program “Vietnamese Tet for International Students,” attracting more than 350 international students from 26 countries. At the event, international students directly experienced typical cultural features of Vietnam’s traditional Tet, from calligraphy writing and making banh chung and banh tet to enjoying traditional cakes and candied fruits imbued with the flavors of spring from different regions.
Under the guidance of artisans and Vietnamese students, many international students held a calligraphy brush for the first time, learning about the meanings of each stroke as well as the spirit of kindness and humanistic values in Vietnamese culture. The activities of making banh chung and banh tet left strong impressions, as each step was associated with stories of family reunion and togetherness - core values of the traditional Tet.
Celebrating Tet in Vietnam for the second time, Phetmeuangneua Thao (a Lao student majoring in Literature Education) expressed her strong impression of the banh chung making activity. Thao said that the cake is not only visually appealing but also represents the meaning of family bonding in Vietnamese culture. Meanwhile, Joe (an American student majoring in Education-Politics) shared that Vietnamese Tet always brings a sense of joy, meaning, and warmth. Joe also expressed his wish to capture Tet moments to introduce Vietnam’s traditional Lunar New Year to international friends.
On this occasion, the university presented souvenir gifts and lucky money envelopes to international students as New Year greetings, while also demonstrating its care and companionship for international students during their studies and lives in Vietnam. Through these activities, international students not only gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese customs, traditions, and spiritual cultural life, but also preserve warm memories during their time away from home.
Many other universities across the country have also organized Tet celebrations for international students. On January 27, Vietnam Maritime University (Hai Phong) held the program “Sharing Tet - Loving Spring,” presenting 144 Tet gift packages to 24 international students and 120 students in difficult circumstances with good academic performance, with a total value of 102 million VND from socialized funding sources. Each gift package not only carried material value but also reflected the university’s care and sharing spirit during the traditional Tet holiday.

International students from countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and the Philippines participated in cultural exhibition booths, folk games, experienced Vietnamese coffee brewing, made banh chung and banh tet, and received meaningful Tet gifts from the university.
The festival not only helps international students better understand Vietnamese culture and traditions, but also creates a space for meeting, exchange, and fostering solidarity and friendship among students from different countries.
