Speaking at the gathering, Hoang Minh Cuong provided overseas Vietnamese with an overview of the city's remarkable economic and social achievements over the past year. In 2024, Hai Phong continued to be a bright spot in national economic growth, recording a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth rate of over 11%. Most key economic indicators exceeded the planned targets.
Investments in infrastructure, including seaports, airports, and urban transportation, have significantly transformed the city's landscape, making it more attractive to foreign investors, expanding urban space, and enhancing connectivity with neighboring localities. Cultural and social activities have also been promoted on a broad scale, enriching the spiritual life of the city's residents.
According to Hoang Minh Cuong, these accomplishments were made possible through the unity and efforts of the entire political system and society, including the invaluable and significant contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community in general and Hai Phong natives living and studying abroad in particular.
He expressed his hope that in 2025, overseas Hai Phong residents would continue to contribute to the city's development within their capacities and resources, facilitating trade and tourism connections between Hai Phong and international partners. He particularly emphasized the role of young overseas Vietnamese, well-educated, dynamic, and creative individuals, who can further highlight Vietnam’s image in multicultural communities abroad. The city remains open to the suggestions and proposals of overseas Vietnamese to foster Hai Phong’s progress towards greater modernization and sustainable development.
On this occasion, two individuals who made outstanding contributions to Hai Phong’s social welfare initiatives in 2024 were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee.
