Japan Donates Mine Clearance Equipment Valued at 500 Million JPY to Vietnam

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Head of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Overcoming the Consequences of Post-War Bombs, Mines, and Toxic Chemicals in Vietnam, along with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, Ito Naoki, signed and exchanged a diplomatic note on the 'Providing Mine Clearance Equipment' project.

This 500 million JPY project is part of the Japanese Government's non-refundable aid cooperation program, 'Socio-economic Development Plan,' for the Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC).

The project will supply VNMAC with advanced equipment from Japanese companies, such as tree cutters and mine clearance machines. These tools will be used for mine and unexploded ordnance clearance activities in cooperation with the People's Committees of various provinces, including Quang Nam province. The cooperation aims to promote the clearance of unexploded ordnance, reduce development obstacles, and contribute to economic and social development through social stability.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Ito Naoki remarked that, although half a century has passed since the end of the war in Vietnam, approximately 17% of the country's land area still contains explosive materials such as unexploded bombs and mines, causing annual casualties and posing a threat to public safety.

Ambassador Ito Naoki expressed hope that, through this project and by providing advanced equipment from Japanese companies, unexploded ordnance clearance activities in contaminated areas such as Quang Nam province would be enhanced, creating a safer environment for people to live in peace.
