Japan supports Vietnam building cancer treatment centre

The information was announced during a meeting held on June 6^th between Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung and a delegation of Japanese cancer experts and those from some Japanese medical groups led by Professor Kensi Hotta, Chairman of Japan’s non-profit association in support of international cancer patients.

According to Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung, in Vietnam, there is an increasing number of cancer patients, with an especially high rate of digestive or lung cancer patients. In particular, the detection of two thirds of cancer patients comes too late for successful treatment. “Therefore, the Vietnamese Minister of Health and Hanoi are in need of technologies for diagnosis and early detection of cancer, thus increasing possibility of successful treatment for patients,” he said.

Regarding the project on a centre supporting cancer patients in Hanoi, the Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee confirmed that the city will address every obstacle for the early operation of the centre.

He expressed his hope that Japanese experts will transfer technology for early detection of cancer to the centre for congestive cancer at the Saint Paul General Hospital.

Professor Kensi Hotta said he and his colleagues hoped to build a centre in support of cancer patients using advanced technology from Japan.

He also confirmed that Japan would send experts to support and exchange experience with Vietnamese doctors, and be willing to receive Vietnamese doctors to study more for higher qualification in Japan./.
