He made the appraisal during an interview granted for a reporter from Vietnam News Agency ahead of Vietnam’s 12th National Party Congress, which will be held from January 20th-28th.

He noted that the policy which he thought had helped Vietnam transition from an underdeveloped country to one with medium income, and bring remarkable poverty reduction, would continue to be implemented in the future.

According to Mr. Yasuo Ogata, Vietnam’s poverty reduction from 58% to 6% was appreciated by the United Nations and the international community. “The achievement is surely the result of the implementation of Vietnam’s renewal policy,” he said.

He assessed that Vietnam had promoted its role on the international arena, being elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a dynamic member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). “Vietnam’s position in the region and the world has been increasingly high,” he said.

He affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam, after national liberation, had carried out perse important tasks towards the building of a rich and strong nation with democracy, equality and advancement. “Vietnam is striving to build a socialist-oriented market economy,” he went on to say.

Noting that reviewing 30 years of the renewal process is a very important work for making new policy for national development and further strengthening position on the international arena, the Japanese Communist Party Vice Chairman expressed his belief that Vietnam would gain success./.
