Language Summit in Lao Cai to Boost Multicultural Exchange

At the 5-day Access English Summer Camp in Lao Cai, more than 100 students and teachers from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia enjoyed practicing English language proficiency, IT skills and soft skills under the theme of "Leadership"

The event was held on June 5-9 by Lao Cai College in cooperation with the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the US Embassy in Hanoi.

It is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, providing 360 hours of free English language instruction to disadvantaged youth aged 13-21 in more than 80 countries. According to RELO, the Access Summit aims to empower young individuals through education and foster global citizenship.

The program in Lao Cai allows students and teachers from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to cross-cultural connections via a series of interactive workshops, field trips, and presentations. In particular, Acess activities centered around leadership, sot that the participant will not only develop their leadership skills, enhance their English language proficiency, but also gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural diversity.

Also this program, along with the US Mission's other English language initiatives, aligns directly with US Mission to Vietnam's goal of expanding English language instruction to promote international integration and economic development. By empowering young individuals with the necessary linguistic and professional abilities, the program actively contributes to their future success and the growth of their respective communities.

At the opening ceremony in June 6, Jerrold J. Frank - Director of Regional English Office (RELO), the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, emphasized that the Acess Summit program is founded in 2004 and will be celebrating the 20th anniversary in 2024. The program started in Vietnam in 2009. Since then, more than 1.200 students had graduated from the program.

"Thank you our partner, Lao Cai college, for suggesting this year's theme "Leadership". Students will not only learn about leadership but also develope leadership projects that they share with students at home Access sites. I hope students and teachers will continue to communicate with each other and build on the friendship [after the summit]," said Jerrold.
