The project, supplying and processing 240 cubic metres per day of clean water, has a total investment of over VND 4.1 billion (USD 180,400), of which over VND 2.2 billion (USD 96,844) were sourced from LDS Charities, and the rest from the provincial budget.

Secretary of the Dong Phu Party Committee Dao Trung Nen said the commune’s only groundwater plan failed to meet the demand of local residents, thus they still had to pump water from rivers, ditches for use. Many households paid for the investment in pipeline infrastructure to the house but for the past nearly 10 years, they do not have enough water for living and have to pump water from the river to use daily.

The new system will help alleviate the situation and improve locals’ health, he added.

According to Le Van Hau, Deputy Head of the provincial Union Of Friendship Organisations, in the coming time, the Union will continue to promote their role in mobilising non-governmental investment sources for more clean water works to be built in the locality.

There are 122 rural water supply stations in the province with 72.2 per cent of rural households using the sources. The rate is expected to increase to 98.2 per cent by the end of 2017.

The percentage of rural households using clean water from the central water supply system is 73 per cent, contributing to ensure the residents’ health and meeting the environmental criteria in building new rural areas./.
