Every Citizen Is a “Green Citizen”

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front, at the launch ceremony, on behalf of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Bui Thi Minh Hoai called on all citizens, public officials, members of the armed forces, people from all walks of life in Vietnam and overseas Vietnamese communities, as well as agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals, to actively participate in the emulation movement All citizens join hands to protect the environment, for a green, clean, and beautiful Vietnam through practical, meaningful, and sustained actions.

She said that the Party and the State have consistently regarded environmental protection as an issue of vital importance to the nation’s development. The Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam sets the goal of ensuring close and harmonious integration between economic, cultural, and social development and environmental protection, while improving people's quality of life.

“With this spirit, and in order to harness the strength of the great national unity bloc and spread community-oriented initiatives, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front calls upon all citizens, public officials, members of the armed forces, people from all walks of life across the country and overseas Vietnamese communities, as well as agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals, to actively respond to the emulation movement All citizens join hands to protect the environment, for a green, clean, and beautiful Vietnam through concrete, practical, and sustained actions,” Bui Thi Minh Hoai emphasized.

To achieve this goal, she urged every citizen, especially public officials and Party members, to begin with the simplest actions: refraining from littering, reducing the use of plastic bags and single-use plastics, conserving electricity and water, planting and caring for trees, and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.

Every family should adopt a civilized and environmentally friendly lifestyle; keep homes, kitchens, and neighborhoods clean; sort waste at the source; create green landscapes and living spaces; and build green, clean, beautiful, progressive, prosperous, and happy families.

Every residential community should foster solidarity and self-governance by regularly organizing environmental clean-up activities, preventing waste accumulation and the formation of illegal dumping sites, cleaning village roads, alleys, and streets, and developing model green roads, green neighborhoods, green residential clusters, and green community groups.

Every commune, ward, and special administrative zone should play a leading role in maintaining environmental protection activities, ensuring effective waste collection and treatment, and developing clean and green streets, inter-village and inter-commune roads, fields, canals, rivers, lakes, beaches, public spaces, religious institutions, and cultural gathering places.

Every government agency, organization, school, business, and production facility should set an example by complying with environmental protection laws, adopting cleaner technologies, reducing emissions, maintaining green, clean, and attractive workplaces, and promoting awareness, education, and innovative solutions for environmental protection.

Bui Thi Minh Hoai underscored: “Every citizen is a green citizen - Every family is a green space - Every residential area, agency, and organization is a green community.” Through this message, she called for environmental protection to become a regular and integral part of everyday social life.

Promote Green Transition and Sustainable Development

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung stated that this is an important political event with profound humanitarian significance. It reflects the determination of the Party, the State, and society as a whole to protect the environment and the oceans, while building a nation that is rapidly developing, sustainable, prosperous, and a desirable place to live.

He expressed his hope that this initiative would not merely remain an emulation campaign, but would evolve into a broad-based, continuous, and long-term social movement - one that becomes an integral part of people’s awareness, mindset, way of life, and voluntary actions, embraced by every citizen, every community, and every business.

The Deputy Prime Minister called on all levels of government, ministries, sectors, and local authorities to focus on effectively implementing six key priorities:

First, continue improving institutions, mechanisms, and policies while enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in environmental protection and climate change response. Ministries, sectors, and localities should further internalize the Party’s guiding principles that “development must be rapid but sustainable,” that “the environment must not be sacrificed for purely economic growth,” and that “environmental protection must occupy a central position in the formulation of strategies, plans, and socio-economic development policies for every sector and locality.”

Second, accelerate the green transition, promote the circular economy and the blue economy, and effectively implement Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Ministries, sectors, and local authorities should adopt coordinated and effective measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy conservation and efficiency, expand renewable energy development, and foster green, circular, and low-carbon industries.

Third, strengthen the application of science and technology and advance digital transformation in the governance of the environment, natural resources, climate, and marine and island affairs.

Fourth, widely promote a nationwide environmental protection movement, encourage green lifestyles and sustainable consumption, and build communities that are resilient and adaptable to climate change.

Fifth, mobilize and effectively utilize resources for environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development.

Sixth, focus on the sustainable development of the marine economy and fundamentally modernize national ocean governance toward a model that is modern, green, and internationally integrated.

These priorities, he noted, are essential to advancing Vietnam’s sustainable development agenda and ensuring long-term environmental, economic, and social resilience.

At the event, Vo Trong Hai, Chairman of the Nghe An People’s Committee, pledged to effectively carry out environmental protection tasks, including the protection of forests, water resources, and natural ecosystems. The province also aims to promote a green and environmentally friendly lifestyle within local communities, fostering a transformation in both awareness and actions among citizens.

Following the launch ceremony, delegates participated in a variety of activities at Cua Lo Beach, including beach clean-up campaigns, tree planting, and visits to local fishermen, during which gifts were presented.

The Organizing Committee also donated 1,000 Vietnamese national flags to fishermen in Cua Lo Ward and presented 25 bicycles to students from disadvantaged fishing families. These activities helped spread the message of environmental protection while promoting social welfare and the sustainable development of Vietnam’s coastal communities.
