At the meeting, Counsellor Cung Duc Han said that, in line with guidance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Mission in Geneva has proactively carried out external outreach activities to mobilize international support for disaster recovery efforts in Vietnam. Accordingly, the Mission has sent diplomatic notes and worked directly with international organizations in Geneva such as the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and several relevant agencies to request emergency assistance. These international organizations expressed sympathy for the difficulties facing the Vietnamese people and said they are ready to mobilize resources within their functions and mandates to provide support.
Receiving the donation, Lo Trung Kien, Deputy Head of the Social Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, expressed sincere thanks for the affection and sense of responsibility shown by the Vietnamese community in Geneva, who have consistently turned their hearts toward the homeland. He stressed that the joint efforts of overseas Vietnamese and international friends are a meaningful source of encouragement, helping strengthen the great national unity at a time when people in many localities are suffering heavy losses from natural disasters.
Lo Trung Kien said the Vietnam Fatherland Front will closely coordinate with relevant agencies and local authorities to receive, manage, and allocate the support funds for the right purposes, in a public and transparent manner, ensuring they reach people in affected areas directly.
