Overseas Vietnamese Build 23 Bridges in An Giang Province

Over the past seven years, a group of overseas Vietnamese built a total of 23 friendship bridges in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, contributing to connecting key routes in the locality, boosting socio-economic development, and improving living standards of residents there.
The People’s Committee of Tri Ton town in the district of the same name in coordination with the group inaugurated friendship bridge VK 281 on August 29.

The bridge, measuring 26 metres long and 3.5 metres wide, was constructed at a cost of VND342 million ($14,515), half of which came from the public, and the remainder was funded by the group. It was open to traffic after more than two months of construction.
Nguyen Thi Yen Thu, deputy head of the group, said since 2016, the group has built up to 23 friendship bridges in the Mekong Delta province, including two in Tri Ton.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of the Tri Ton town People’s Committee Lo Vinh Huy stressed the importance of the bridge as it will link key routes in the town with those in communes while contributing to speeding up socio-economic development and raising locals’ living standards./.

| The group gathers overseas Vietnamese in Canada, the US, France, Japan, and Australia, among other countries. Established in 2004, its initial objective was to build 10 bridges in the southwestern region. However, the number has amounted to 281 in the southern, central, and southwestern regions, with a combined length of over 7,500 meters and a total value of nearly VND44 billion. |
