The event responded to the campaign "Proud of the Mountains and Rivers” launched by the Central Youth Union to strengthen education on patriotism and awareness of national and ethnic sovereignty. Through the campaign, young people hang Vietnam maps at their study, labor, and workplaces.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vietnamese Consul General in Osaka Ngo Trinh Ha said that the Vietnamese community in Japan has more than 530,000 people, and is growing stronger.

Through the meaningful activities, Consul General Ngo Trinh Ha hopes that Japanese friends will have a deeper understanding of Vietnam and the people, and support the country’s territorial sovereignty. “We hope that our Japanese friends will support us in spreading the word,” she said.

Le Thuong, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Association in Kansai, said that the Vietnam map is a symbol of national sovereignty and the pride of Vietnamese people.

With each map being displayed, many Vietnamese people living, working, and studying in Japan will understand more about the country's geographical indications and the long history of people fighting to protect the land.

"I feel this is an extremely meaningful activity because maps do not only provide knowledge about geography but are also the shape of our homeland, the place where we were born. The launch of the movement to use Vietnam's map widely started by young people is a good sign before the new year 2024. This is also a reminder of the sacred sovereignty of the homeland that is carried in the heart of each Vietnamese people,” Le Thuong remarked.

At the opening ceremony, the Organizing Committee presented the map of Vietnam to Osaka University, the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association, YouTuber Betonamu Kun, the Fukuoka Vietnamese Association, the Toyama Vietnamese Association, and JVS, among others.

Professor Shimizu Misaki, Head of the Vietnamese Department of Osaka University, emphasized the importance of these maps. "Receiving the map will help students of the Vietnamese department at our university learn about Vietnam's historical geography in the most accurate way. This is the first time we have received a map from Vietnam. This activity is significant and practical, especially in teaching and learning for international students to understand Vietnam.”
