| The Vietnamese Association of Udon Thani province, the monks and nuns of Khanh An pagoda in northeastern Thailand held a ceremony to pay tribute to the martyrs. |
Under the guidance of monks and nuns of Khanh An pagoda, overseas Vietnamese held a memorial ceremony for 64 martyrs who died on Gac Ma island. This is the 7th year that they held the ceremony.
Due to the complicated development of the Covid-19 pandemic in Thailand, this year's ceremony was held on a smaller scale than in previous years.
The ceremony is to review the tradition of the nation's heroic struggle to build and defend the country. This affirms that overseas Vietnamese in Udon Thani always remember the merits of 64 soldiers of the Vietnam People's Navy who sacrificed themselves on Gac Ma Island to protect the country's sacred sovereignty over the sea and islands.
The Vietnamese community in Udon Thani upholds the spirit of solidarity, towards the homeland, contributing to the construction and protection of the country's sovereignty, sea and islands.

At the ceremony, Nguyen Thi Xuan Oanh, an overseas Vietnamese in Udon Thani province shared with the Vietnam Times: “Every year, I get to attend a memorial ceremony to commemorate heroes and martyrs who sacrificed themselves to protect the sovereignty of Gac Ma island.
All Vietnamese in Thailand are grateful for the martyrs' sacrifice. Their sacrifices have continued our nation's tradition of heroic struggle against foreign invaders. I think this is a humane and meaningful activity that needs to be maintained, as a reminder to us that overseas Vietnamese always look to their homeland, contributing to the defense of the Fatherland."
