Overseas Vietnamese Suggest Initiative for HCMC to Recover

The Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs held a meeting on Feb. 11, to collect overseas Vietnamese’ views on the city’s potential new directions and development post-Covid-19.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan sent New Year wishes to the overseas Vietnamese.

He thanked Vietnamese expats for their contribution to the city before, during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sharing the city's socio-economic development orientation in 2022, Vo Van Hoan said, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has always identified overseas Vietnamese as an important resource.

They help the city fulfill its socio-economic tasks and goals in 2022 and the following years.

Ho Chi Minh City wants to receive their advice and recommendations on how to fight the pandemic and deal with its aftermath, he noted, adding that the expats’ opinions on local programs on economic development were much sought after.

Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Pham Quang Hieu, thanked the overseas Vietnamese for their support and contributions to the development of the country and Ho Chi Minh City especially during the fouth wave of the Covid-19.

He appreciated the contributions of overseas Vietnamese made at the meeting.

Vietnamese expats have donated medical equipment, raised funds and shared Covid-19 response experience. These contributions are not only valuable to Ho Chi Minh City, but can also be applied to many other localities across the country.

Pham Quang Hieu also believes that Ho Chi Minh City will continue to do good in the overseas Vietnamese work.

The city is enhancing its role as a bridge to mobilize resources of expatriates for development, helping the city achieves its socio-economic development goals.

Representatives of overseas Vietnamese shared experiences, and solutions on strengthening the stability and economic development in Ho Chi Minh City in the recovery period after the pandemic.

The solutions focus on improving the efficiency of exporting goods to international markets; quality of human resources; plans on building sustainable health development models to respond to Covid-19; and attracting and using resources from overseas Vietnamese for the city's socio-economic development.

Professor Dang Luong Mo, overseas Vietnamese in Japan, proposed to focus on all digital transformation efforts by consolidating all stakeholders into a unified organization dedicated to digital transformation.

Steve Bui, overseas Vietnamese in Japan, chairman of Japanese Delta E&C Financial Investment and Consulting Group, said that with the export of Vietnamese goods to the world, businesses are now mainly following the movement, while they still need to to learn international laws and regulations of the host country.

He suggested that the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs should set up a consulting group for businesses wanting to export to foreign countries.

“This is very useful for businesses, and we are ready to participate,” said Bui.

Le Ba Linh is the chairman of the Board of Directors of Pacific Foods with more than 10 years of experience in bringing Vietnamese traditional products to the world market. He said he is willing to share with other businesses about administrative procedures and support to bring products abroad.
