The event was held next to the monument of President Ho Chi Minh in Zalaegerszeg City, about 240km west of Budapest (Hungary).

Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao appreciated the Hungarians who took care of the campus of Uncle Ho's monument park.

She said the gift that Hungary and its people have given Vietnam - the full-body statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Zalaegerszeg City is a masterpiece of high cultural value.

According to the Ambassador, the monument has been preserved by the authorities, the people of Zalaegerszeg City, and close friends of Vietnam during the past 47 years. It overcomes all the harsh tests of time and is a symbol of friendship and cohesion between Vietnam and Hungary.

Balaicz Zoltán, mayor of Zalaegerszeg City, said that the President Ho Chi Minh Monument in the city is a great work. It showed Uncle Ho's qualities as a patriot, the father of the nation, leading the Vietnamese people in the fight for national independence.

According to Zoltán, the friendship between the two countries in the past has developed into good relations in all fields.

The ceremony was attended by Balogh Miklós, a former member of the National Assembly and member of the City Council, who took care of the Ho Chi Minh Monument, along with many other friends of Vietnam.

Among them are veterans who were members of the International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS), overseeing the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Vietnam. For them, Vietnam is part of their lives and memories. Their loyal feelings for Vietnam are emotions that stood the test of time.

The monument of President Ho Chi Minh was made in 1976 by the famous Hungarian sculptor Marton László (1925-2008). He presented the image of Uncle Ho in a simple but sharp and soulful way. Behind the monument is engraved President Ho Chi Minh's famous saying: "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom".

Opened on the one-year anniversary of the Reunification Day of Vietnam (April 30, 1976), the monument of President Ho Chi Minh by Marton László won the award of the Hungarian Ministry of Culture in 1977, and became part of the culture of the city of Zalaegerszeg.

During the Eastern European period of institutional change, in the early 90s, many streets were renamed, and monuments were also moved. However, Hungarians who respect President Ho Chi Minh and love Vietnam stood up to protect Uncle Ho's monument so it won't be moved or removed.
