Quang Ngai Benefited from the Vietnam-Korea Peace Village Project

The "Mine Action for Vietnam-Korea Peace Village" project aims to support the socio-economic development of local communities in 20 communes in Quang Ngai province.

On May 17, the delegation of the Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (KOICA Vietnam) paid a visit to Quang Ngai province for surveying and preparing documents to implement the "Mine Action for Vietnam-Korea Peace Village" project in the locality. The project aims to support the socio-economic development of local communities in 20 communes in Quang Ngai.

At the meeting, representatives of VNMAC and KOICA Vietnam said that the delegation sets a goal to visit and survey in all communes and districts in the project, where there is still a large area of ​​bomb pollution. The survey will help to grasp the situation to effectively conduct the project in Quang Ngai.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hoang Tuan called this project a humane work to support people and localities to overcome the consequences of bombs and mines after wars, natural disasters and other risks. He also emphasized that Quang Ngai province appreciates and provides assistance and coordination to create the best conditions for the delegation to survey the localities in the project for effective results.

The Vietnam - Korea Peace Village Project in Quang Ngai province is funded by KOICA through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with the goal of supporting socio-economic development of local communities living in the project area and around newly cleared land. It also aims to strengthen the resilience of local communities, especially victims of mines and UXO, natural disasters and other risks.

Four components included in the project are enhancing safety for people living in the community in the target areas; enhancing sustainable rural development through strengthening and improving livelihoods and infrastructure for project beneficiaries; strengthen the resilience of people in the target areas by building socio-economic infrastructure that is resilient to climate change such as houses and health centers against storms.

With a total funding of more than USD 4.3 million, equivalent to more than VND 100 billion, the project is implemented in 5 years in 20 communes in 6 districts and towns of Quang Ngai province including Binh Son, Mo Duc, Nghia Hanh, Son Tinh, Son Ha, and Duc Pho.
