Several Indian Cultural Exchange Activities To Take Place in Hanoi

This year, many art troupes from India, including bands, classical dance will perform in Vietnam, including Hanoi.

A wide range of cultural exchange activities are scheduled to take place in the capital to introduce Indian culture, VOV reported.

This information was unveiled during a meeting held on April 25 between Vu Thu Ha, vice chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee, and Subhash Prasad Gupta, deputy chief of the mission from the Embassy of India in Vietnam.

A number of art troupes from India will arrive in Vietnam this year, Gupta informed his host, hoping India would continue to receive support from the municipal administration to deploy cultural exchange activities between the two countries this year.

The Indian diplomat revealed that the highlight of the exchange proramme will be International Yoga Day and “Run for Peace” due to take place in Hanoi from June 18. Both of events are expected to attract the participation of over 1,000 people, he said.

He also conveyed an invitation from the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam to the municipal People's Committee to dispatch additional delegations to India to further promote friendship and seek investment opportunities.

For her part, Vu Thu Ha, vice chairwoman of the municipal administration, expressed Hanoi’s wish to continue ramping up ties with India across multiple spheres, especially in culture, tourism, sports, and conservation of historical relics.

Hanoi is ready to join India in organizing the upcoming activities effectively with the aim of enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples whilst elevating joint relations to new heights, she emphasized.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972 which were upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2007 and then a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2017, the Vietnam – India relations have been growing strongly, and recording great achievements across cooperation pillars such as politics – diplomacy, defence – security, trade – investment, science – technology, culture, and people-to-people exchange.

Recently, 77 books about Indian economy, polity, culture and foreign policy were handed over by the Indian Embassy to the Centre for Indian Studies at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

The India Corner displaying the books at the library of the Academy was inaugurated by Subhash Gupta, in the presence of Director of the Centre for Indian Studies Dr. Nguyen Manh Hai and other officers, and contribute to greater understanding and study of present-day India in Vietnam.

Earlier, on March 18 , the Indian Embassy held ‘India Day - a Festival of Unity in Diversity’ in Hanoi to promote the cultural features of India to Vietnamese people, reported the Nhan Dan newspaper.

The event aimed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, known as “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, 50 years of Vietnam - India diplomatic relations, India’s Presidency of G-20 and the International Year of Millets.

The art programme featured different classical, folk and popular dance forms of India, and yoga demonstrations by experienced practitioners.

At the festival, Indian garments, art and craft, henna, mehndi and many other products were displayed, attracting a large number of both Indian and Vietnamese people. In addition, many photos highlighting the exchanges of high-level delegations and cultural activities between the two countries were also showcased.

By the end of 2021, the two-way trade reached USD 13.2 billion and is heading for USD 20 billion in the coming time. India is the 27th largest foreign investor out of the 140 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with more than 300 projects and a total registered investment capital of nearly USD 1 billion.

Figures show that the number of Indian tourists visiting Vietnam reached nearly 138,000 in 2022, ranking it 9th among the 10 largest source markets. It is also one of the 10 countries with the biggest search volume for tourism in Vietnam.
