Swedish Director Bo Öhlén Promotes Vietnamese History and Culture

The award recognizes Bo Öhlén’s outstanding contributions to promoting Vietnamese history and culture through his documentary “Victory Vietnam.” The ceremony was held at the Embassy of Vietnam in Sweden, with the attendance of Ambassador Tran Van Tuan, Maria Meschke, the wife of director Bo Öhlén, representatives of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Sweden, the Vietnamese Association in Stockholm, as well as officials and staff of the Embassy of Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Tran Van Tuan emphasized: “Victory Vietnam is a truly moving and authentic documentary, officially released to Vietnamese audiences in April 2025 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). The film was screened on a large scale in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, as well as broadcast nationwide on Vietnam Television (VTV), leaving a profound impact and touching the hearts of tens of millions of Vietnamese people at home and abroad.”
“I highly appreciate director Bo Öhlén’s contributions in preserving pivotal moments of Vietnam’s history. The film not only vividly recreates the spirit of Vietnam’s struggle for independence but also helps strengthen cultural ties between our two nations. His dedication to presenting Vietnam’s history has enabled Swedish and international audiences to gain a deeper understanding of our country.”

Speaking upon receiving the Medal, director Bo Öhlén shared with emotion:
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Government and people of Vietnam. When making this film, my wish was to convey the genuine emotions and the spirit of solidarity that I once witnessed in Sweden during that historic period. I hope the film will not only serve as a documentary work but also as a cultural bridge that brings our two peoples closer together.”
In a congratulatory letter to director Bo Öhlén, Le Thi Ha, Director of the Vietnam Film Institute, wrote with deep emotion: “Receiving this film is a great honor for the Vietnam Film Institute. It is a precious historical document and a symbol of the international solidarity that Sweden extended to Vietnam during its most difficult times - a spirit that we continue to cherish and preserve to this day.”
The awarding ceremony also served as an occasion to reaffirm the appreciation of the Government and people of Vietnam for the enduring friendship and solidarity that the Government and people of Sweden have extended to Vietnam over the decades. At the same time, the event further strengthened the bonds of friendship and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and Sweden in the fields of culture and cinema, underscoring the two nations’ shared commitment to fostering mutual respect, understanding, and cultural exchange among peoples.
