At the beginning of the article, the author recalls the connection formed more than 20 years ago when Savary and his wife, as members of the organization Vietnam Medical Aids (VMA), traveled to Vietnam to support the healthcare sector in the Mekong Delta region, particularly at hospitals in Can Tho City and Vi Thanh City (formerly of Hau Giang province).

Thanks to the contributions of the Savary couple and the team of doctors and medical staff from VMA, hospitals in the region benefited from enhanced professional capacity and access to modern medical equipment, helping to improve healthcare services for local people. Although the Savarys returned to Switzerland in 2002 due to health reasons, they have continued to hold deep affection for Vietnam, and VMA has persisted in implementing various healthcare development programs in the region.

In the article, journalist Alain Jourdan describes the occasion as a reunion of longtime friends, a gesture of appreciation by the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam toward Swiss friends who have contributed to bilateral cooperation and to Vietnam’s development. It was also a deeply emotional moment for Savary, who has never forgotten the warm hospitality and fond memories associated with the Vietnamese people. The meeting reaffirmed the “enduring bond” that has linked him to Vietnam and its people for nearly 30 years.
