In 4 working days, the two sides had frank and constructive exchanges, significantly narrowing the gap in most areas of negotiation. Vietnam's feedback has been noted and responded to positively by the United States. In particular, the two sides agreed to hold an online meeting in the near future to continue to handle the remaining contents and prepare for the online negotiation session between Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
An important highlight of this round of negotiations is the special meeting on the afternoon of June 12 - the last working session. Minister Nguyen Hong Dien held talks at the same time with two senior U.S. leaders: Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Ambassador Jamieson Greer, Chief U.S. Trade Representative. This is the first time the United States has proposed a form of ministerial negotiation in this arrangement.
At the negotiation session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien proposed many specific initiatives to promote the process and move towards a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement. The two U.S. ministers highly appreciated the goodwill and proposal from the Vietnamese side, considering it an important basis to promote the next steps in negotiations.
Following the plenary session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien continued to have a private exchange with Minister Lutnick. The United States attaches great importance to and hopes that relations with Vietnam will continue to develop strongly, said Secretary Lutnick. Also, he acknowledged Vietnam's proposals and said he would coordinate with the U.S. Trade Representative to find a suitable solution.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the assessments of Secretary Lutnick and Ambassador Greer. Vietnam is determined to build and promote economic and trade relations with the US in a balanced and sustainable direction for the benefit of the people and businesses of the two countries, stressed the Vietnamese minister. The Ministers agreed to assign the two sides to continue to strengthen exchanges to soon reach an agreement in accordance with the expectations and conditions of each side.
