Thousand students and lecturers in Hai Duong volunteer to join Covid-19 battle

In the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic in the northern province of Hai Duong, more than 1,000 lecturers and students of Hai Duong Medical Technical University have volunteered to join the fight against the pandemic.

After receiving the telegram of the Minister of Health and the direction of the Hai Duong Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control, Hai Duong Medical Technical University has promptly implemented anti-Covid-19 measures as well as mobilized officers, lecturers, and students to join the battle against the pandemic, according to Dan Tri.

Hai Duong Medical Technical University has trained more than 1,000 lecturers along with third-year and fourth-year students to participate in the epidemiological investigation, contact tracing, zoning, testing Covid-19, and treating Covid-19 patients. More notably, all of them volunteer to join.

The school leader said that it coordinated with Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital to set up a field hospital that can treat 210 patients with 26 emergency recovery beds and 2 operating rooms. Many lecturers and students have involved in testing Covid-19 and taking care of and treating Covid-19 patients at the hospital.

More than 274 final-year students have been mobilized to support the Hai Duong health sector in taking samples, testing, and contact tracing in Chi Linh city, Nam Sach district, and Kinh Mon town. They take 4000-5000 samples per day. Other 31 lecturers and students have taken part in contact tracing F0 cases at the Hai Duong Center for Disease Control (CDC).

In addition, as many as 19 third-year students at Hai Duong Medical Technical University volunteer to stay at the field hospital instead of coming back to their hometowns for the Tet holiday.

They are trained on how to use personal protective gear as well as disinfect tools and the environment. Since January 31, they have started with their duties, contributing to quickly curb the epidemic in Hai Duong hotspot.

Hai Duong Province reported additional 37 Covid-19 cases on February 4 morning.

All of the patients are workers at an industrial park in Chi Linh Town where the first case of Hai Duong and also one of the first cases of the ongoing community outbreak was detected.

The infections were discovered following the mass testing of people related to the cluster.

Before the test results returned as positive, those 37 workers had been quarantined in accordance with the contact tracing protocols.

With the new confirmed cases, Vietnam has recorded 366 domestic Covid-19 cases in 10 cities and provinces since the community transmission resurged in the country on January 28.

Hai Duong currently has 277 cases, Quang Ninh 42, Hanoi 21, Gia Lai 14, Binh Duong 4, Bac Ninh 3, Hoa Binh 2, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong and Bac Giang one each.

The nation has so far recorded 1,948 Covid-19 patients and 449 are active.

More than 2.27 million people around the world have succumbed to Covid-19 after nearly 105 million got infected with the virus.
