Thua Thien Hue: 130 international volunteers help improving children’s education environment

Hearts for Hue organized a volunteer program to build a  better learning environment in Thua Thien Hue province this November.

With the donation of schools of Hong Kong (China) and collaboration of Wide Eyed Pupil, Hearts For Hue has supported to build a green library for Phu Luong primary school; computer room for Phu Luong secondary school; hand washing station for children in Huong Xuan and Quang Phu primary schools.

Four different community service projects conducted by more than 130 international volunteers, including Project KGV Challenge Week of King George V at Huong Xuan Primary School; Project SIS Making a difference of South Island School at Huong Tho Kindergarten; Project ASHK Week without walls of American School Hong Kong at Quang Phu Primary School; and Project DC No Boundaries of Discovery College at Phu Luong Primary school and Phu Luong Secondary School.

The international volunteers focused on library construction for primary school, hand washing station construction, purchasing and installing a new computer system, refurbishing school by painting windows, doors system, painting mural. In addition, the volunteers got involved into the English teaching sessions, hygiene lessons for children.

Moreover, as a facilitator to organize community service projects, there were more than 30 local volunteers from Hearts For Hue lent a hand to support the international volunteers in translations and completing the tasks during projects.

As a result, thanks to the volunteer’s hard work, a new infrastructure is completed. The volunteer program offered the local pupils and children access to a highly effective learning environment.

The Community Service Program was started in 2010 by Hearts for Hue and has organized 53 groups of student and volunteer led building projects. Volunteers work together to complete construction projects and take part in cultural exchange activities./.
