Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Viet Nam to Brazil and concurrently to Guyana Bui Van Nghi reviewed notable achievements in Viet Nam’s foreign affairs and international integration in 2025, and highlighted positive developments in Viet Nam’s relations with Latin America. In particular, the upgrade of Vietnam-Brazil relations to a Strategic Partnership and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Guyana were described as milestones of great significance.

According to Ambassador Bui Van Nghi, economic diplomacy continues to be a bright spot in Vietnam–Brazil relations, with bilateral trade reaching nearly USD 8 billion. Notably, Viet Nam’s seafood exports to Brazil recorded a sharp increase of 36.7 percent, creating a solid foundation toward the target of USD 15 billion by 2030. Along with Brazil’s recognition of Viet Nam as a market economy in March 2025, the two sides have actively launched negotiations on a trade agreement between Viet Nam and the MERCOSUR bloc, while expanding cooperation in high technology, renewable energy, and food security.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Guyana, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi affirmed that this milestone provides an important opportunity for the two countries to further consolidate political trust and expand cooperation in potential areas, thereby making positive contributions to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and the world.

Addressing the program, Brazilian Deputy Foreign Minister Susan Kleebank emphasized that the upgrade of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership in 2024 was a historic milestone, reinforced through high-level visits and the adoption of the Action Plan for the 2025-2030 period. According to her, this reflects a high level of political trust and deep dialogue between Viet Nam and Brazil.

The Brazilian Deputy Foreign Minister also noted the strong growth of bilateral trade, particularly in agriculture, food, and fisheries, and highly valued the potential for cooperation in food security, bioenergy, energy transition, aviation, and high technology. In science and technology, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on innovation in 2025 was regarded as an important step forward, laying the groundwork for advanced research and institutional development.

Within the framework of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Guyana, Guyana’s Ambassador to Brazil Compton Bourne expressed his desire to further promote cooperation with Vietnam, especially in energy, sustainable forestry, trade, industrial manufacturing, technical cooperation, and ecotourism. He also called on Vietnam to participate in the Global Biodiversity Alliance Initiative launched by Guyana, aiming to enhance international cooperation in nature conservation and sustainable development.
