The report evaluated 403 container ports worldwide, using a massive dataset of over 175,000 port calls and 247 million container moves. The CPPI reflects cargo handling efficiency, with higher rankings indicating better vessel turnaround time and cargo flow.

This year’s results paint a positive picture for Vietnam’s logistics sector. Cai Mep continues to assert its leading position, holding 7th place globally and outperforming major and well-known ports such as Hong Kong (12), Tanjung Pelepas (13), and Yokohama (16). Cai Mep is ranked just behind top ports in China, Egypt, and Morocco.

Hai Phong port’s remarkable rise - jumping 40 positions from last year - places it in the global top 30 and makes it one of the 20 ports with the strongest CPPI improvements worldwide during 2020-2024. This achievement clearly demonstrates Hai Phong port’s efforts to upgrade operational capacity and service quality in recent years.

Several other Vietnamese ports also made the rankings, showing balanced development across the national seaport system. These include Saigon (116), Cat Lai (122), Da Nang (128), Quy Nhon (150), and Chu Lai (157).

The report also noted that the global CPPI in 2024 showed a downward trend due to geopolitical factors and climate change. The Red Sea crisis forced container ships to reroute via the Cape of Good Hope, while water shortages in the Panama Canal reduced cargo flow, prolonging shipping times and causing congestion at many major ports.

Experts emphasized that a port’s performance does not solely depend on its size. The report highlighted that ports which accelerate digitalization, operate 24/7, and enhance logistics connectivity often see significant CPPI improvements. Even smaller ports with optimized yard management and equipment utilization can achieve outstanding efficiency, underscoring the critical role of technology, management, and tight coordination in optimizing the global supply chain.
