Vietnam is confident that any US President will support the bolstering of the Vietnam-US relations, deputy spokesperson of the Vietnamese foreign ministry Duong Hoai Nam said on November 5.
Nam made the remarks in response to a question on the possible impacts of the US presidential election on the bilateral ties at a regular press conference of the ministry in Hanoi.
After 25 years since establishing diplomatic ties, the Vietnam-US relations have made great strides in substance and depth, which have laid a solid foundation for the two countries to promote and expand their relations, thus contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large, he stated.
“We believe that any new US president will also support this process,” Nam said.
Vietnam considers the US one of the most top partners on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, and mutual benefits, Nam said, adding that Vietnam hopes the US will continue to expand, consolidate and develop the bilateral relations in a substantive, effective and sustainable manner.
“Vietnam welcomes the role of the US and its initiatives that help to maintain peace, security, stability, cooperation and development in the region, including the US’s support for ASEAN’s centrality in harmony with regional cooperation mechanisms and in line with international law,” he went on.
Commenting on the ongoing US president election, Nam said that the presidential election is an internal affair of the US and only the American people have the right to make decisions./.
