This was emphasized by Ambassador of Vietnam to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung in an interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) ahead of the President’s working visit, scheduled for September 21-24.

In 2025, the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary - an important milestone for the world’s largest multilateral organization. President Luong Cuong’s participation in the high-level General Debate of the 80th Session demonstrates Vietnam’s strong support for multilateralism and its recognition of the central role of the United Nations.

This occasion also provides Vietnam with the opportunity to reaffirm its position as an active, responsible member of the international community, to present its viewpoints and share development experiences, and to contribute practical initiatives and solutions to common global challenges such as peace, stability, sustainable development, and climate change response.

In 2025, Vietnam and the US celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the second anniversary of their elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development.

During the working trip, President Luong Cuong will also engage in bilateral activities in the US across political, economic, technological, cultural, and people-to-people exchange sectors. These activities are expected to contribute to maintaining stability and promoting the comprehensive development of bilateral relations in the years to come.

Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung underlined that the elevation of Vietnam-US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has created momentum and a framework for the bilateral relationship to advance with substantial outcomes. This has been particularly evident through the maintenance and expansion of exchange channels at all levels, especially at the high level. Notably, mutual respect and attention between the two countries have been strengthened. High-level contacts serve as a foundation and orientation for the development of bilateral relations across various fields.

According to the Ambassador, in terms of economy, trade, and investment, the two countries have achieved remarkable results. Bilateral trade turnover continues to grow robustly, with the US remaining Vietnam’s largest export market.

The US places a high priority on reciprocal trade negotiations with Vietnam, and the two sides have soon reached a high-level common understanding, providing orientation for concrete negotiations aimed at ensuring more sustainable and balanced trade. Vietnam continues to attract significant interest from US investors, particularly leading companies in technology, energy, and logistics, while an increasing number of Vietnamese businesses are seeking investment opportunities in the US.

The Ambassador noted that, in the context of international and regional volatility, as well as stemming from the strengths and aspirations of both countries, the sectors with the greatest potential for development in the near future are economy, trade, and science and technology.

These are areas well aligned with Vietnam’s development needs, orientations, and priorities in the new era, while also matching the US objective and trend of ensuring diversification and sustainability of supply chains.

This presents an opportunity for Vietnam to become a reliable partner in global value chains, particularly in technology, clean energy, and sustainable development. In addition, culture and tourism, as well as education and training, are also sectors with great potential for cooperation in the coming period.
