The consular consultation is a bilateral cooperation mechanism between Vietnam and Japan that was established in 2014. The most recent meeting was held in 2019 in Japan, then paused due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the 7th meeting, both sides had a frank and open exchange on the recent bilateral consular cooperation situation, shared experiences and promoted coordination in settlement on consular issues of mutual interest, especially regarding the entry, exit, residence and employment of citizens in the territory of the other country. Vietnam and Japan agreed that the meeting was held successfully with many practical contents exchanged.
In the context that Vietnamese community in Japan stands the second largest of foreign community, and Japan also has many citizens residing and working in Vietnam, there is a need to strengthen cooperation between consular agencies of the two sides to resolve arising issues.
Also, on the afternoon of April 4, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu received Ando Toshihide on a courtesy visit.
