Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Can Tho City Seek to Promote Relations

On May 27, speaking at the Congress of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Can Tho City for the term of 2023-2028, Vice Chairman of Central Committee of the Association Tran Tan Ngo suggested that the Congress continue to work on "Sowing seeds of friendship," considering this as an important task in the activities of the Association in the locality.

Le Thi Thanh Giang, president of the Union of Friendship Organizations of Can Tho City, presented the Certificate of Merit from the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations to the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Can Tho City.

According to Tran Tan Ngo, vice chairman of Central Committee of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, the Association's activity "Sowing seeds of friendship" achieved many practical results.

The Association's report showed that since 2019, the Association campaigned to support 83 scholarships for students, each from VND1 million to 2 million (US$42 to US$85). They organized a delegation to visit and give gifts to support Cambodian students studying at universities in Can Tho City, facing difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a total of more than VND100 million (US$4258).

The Executive Board of the Association regularly met with Cambodian students, helping them solve hardships in living and studying in Can Tho City. The Association helped them have a strong spiritual support during the time of studying away from home.

In order to continue developing activities of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, at the Congress, 6 families sponsored and gave gifts to 6 Cambodian students studying in Can Tho City.

Tran Tan Ngo proposed that the Association promote the results achieved, continue to do well the work of "Sowing seeds of friendship," considering this as a key task in the Association's activities in the locality.

Along with this activity, the Congress agreed that in the term of 2023-2028, the Association will continue to promote friendship, cooperation and exchange activities between the people of the two countries. They promote and mobilize friendship organizations and non-governmental organizations to implement NGO projects.

In the new term, the Association focused on establishing a Khmer language club and a business club to help officials and members with Khmer language skills to exchange with Cambodian partners.

Speaking at the congress, Nguyen Trung Nhan, head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Can Tho City, suggested that in the new term, the Association's Executive Board would continue to be creative and diversify the cooperation between Cambodia and Can Tho City in all fields.

He wanted the Association to do better in fostering, educating, and raising the awareness of people, especially the young generations of the two countries, about Vietnam-Cambodia relations.

The Association cooperates with agencies, and departments of the city to well organize friendship exchanges and social security activities for the Cambodian people, especially developing the twinning relationship between Can Tho City and the two provinces of Kompong Chhnang and Battampang.

The Congress consulted and elected the Executive Committee of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association of Can Tho City for the term of 2023-2028 including 26 members. Nguyen Van Can was re-elected Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Can Tho City for the term 2023-2028.

At the congress, the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Can Tho City was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for its outstanding achievements in the 2018-2023 term.

4 individuals of the Association were awarded the Medal for Peace and Friendship among Nations by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations.

In recognition of the contribution of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Can Tho City, the Central Committee of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association also presented Certificates of Merit and Medals of "For the Friendship of Vietnam-Cambodia" to individuals.

This is to recognize the contribution to the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Can Tho City particularly and the strengthening of friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia in general.
