Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association Pays Tribute to Lao National Assembly President Xaysomphone Phomvihane

In the condolence book, Nguyen Dac Vinh wrote:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Politburo Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, a key leader of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party who devoted his entire life to the cause of protecting and building Laos. He made important contributions to building, consolidating and developing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos.
The Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association extends its deepest condolences to the Party, State and people of Laos, as well as to the family of Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane. His passing is a great loss to the Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos, as well as to those working in people-to-people diplomacy in the two countries. We will forever remember Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane with profound respect and boundless gratitude. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
The Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association will make every effort, together with friendship organizations of the two countries, to consolidate and promote the friendship between Vietnam and Laos, strengthen solidarity, enhance people-to-people cooperation, and actively contribute to preserving and promoting the relationship between the two countries - an invaluable asset nurtured by generations of the two countries, including Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane.”
| Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane, born on December 12, 1956, a Politburo Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, passed away on August 8, 2026, at the age of 70. Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane was a key leader of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party who made important contributions to the Lao revolutionary cause and to the protection, construction and development of the country. In Vietnam-Laos relations, he played an important role in inheriting, nurturing and developing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between the two countries. |
On April 6 in Hanoi, a delegation of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, led by Nguyen Dac Vinh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture and Social Affairs of the 15th tenure, and President of the Association, visited the Embassy of Laos in Vietnam to extend congratulations on the occasion of the Bunpimay New Year 2026 (Buddhist Era 2569). |
With the passing of Xaysomphone Phomvihane, the Party, State and people of Laos have lost a talented and exemplary leader, while the Party, State and people of Vietnam have lost a close, loyal and trusted friend and a comrade who always stood side by side with them. |
