On October 12, at EXPO 2025 Osaka (Kansai, Japan), the World Expo Awards Ceremony (BIE Day Awards) took place as part of the Official Participant Awards program, jointly organized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the EXPO 2025 Organizing Committee.
This is the most prestigious and official award within the long-standing EXPO award system, which originated with the first World Expo held in London in 1851. The BIE judging panel includes nine distinguished global experts in various fields such as culture, society, architecture, urban planning, communications, and diplomacy.

The awards are granted in three major categories: Architectural and Landscape Design, Exhibition Design, and Development of the EXPO 2025 Theme (“Designing Future Society for Our Lives”).
This year, with 165 participating countries and international organizations, Vietnam won the Silver Award in the “Best Exhibition Design” category for the pre-built and small pavilion types (Categories B and X). In the same category, Peru won the Gold Award, and Cambodia received the Bronze Award.
World Expositions always encourage participating countries to share their perspectives on global issues through public-oriented expressions aimed at building a better future.
Therefore, EXPO’s evaluation criteria are highly diverse. Beyond professional, technical, and aesthetic standards, the awards emphasize message delivery, developmental solutions, vision, innovation, invention, creativity, public engagement, and fresh inspiration.
Tran Nhat Hoang, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated: “Our entire Vietnam Pavilion team is deeply moved and proud. First of all, the Department of International Cooperation has successfully fulfilled all national tasks approved by the Prime Minister in the EXPO 2025 participation plan - from visitor engagement targets to initiatives promoting Vietnam’s image to the world.
This marks the first time Vietnam has been honored with a Silver Award in the ‘Best Exhibition Design’ category at a World Expo - a major milestone affirming Vietnam’s position and creative capacity in global events.
We have creatively integrated diverse traditional cultural materials with modern expressive language. This award proves that our rich and beautiful culture is being recognized internationally.”
The Vietnam Pavilion’s success comes not only from its impressive exhibition design but also from a young, dynamic, and passionate team.
Earlier, the Vietnam Pavilion was also awarded the Bronze Prize for “Best Pavilion Team” by the Experiential Design Authority, whose jury includes leading consultants from the United States and other countries.
Being honored in both key categories - design and operations - demonstrates the collective and consistent efforts of the Steering Committee, design team, and operational staff of the Vietnam Pavilion.
Fusion of Technology and Vietnamese Cultural Identity
The Vietnam Pavilion was conceptualized by the Department of International Cooperation, designed by Mark ‘n B (for space and graphics), and constructed by Pico International.
With the theme “Inclusive Society with People at its Center,” the design reflects the spirit of EXPO 2025’s overarching theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” while celebrating Vietnamese national identity through decoration, interior design, artifacts, and innovative presentation.

The exhibition space harmoniously combines advanced technology with traditional cultural values, offering international visitors a vivid experience of a Vietnam that is rich in heritage yet dynamic, innovative, and forward-looking.
The pavilion’s highlight is its water puppet theater area, where traditional performances take place. Within the same space, hologram technology, interactive touch screens, and emotional art experiences come together to create a unique, multi-sensory environment.
Its lively activities, distinctive and culturally rich design, and attention to detail have attracted tens of thousands of international visitors daily, making it one of the most popular and impressive performance spaces at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
A Bridge for Cultural Exchange and Vietnam’s Global Image
Over six months, the Vietnam Pavilion welcomed nearly 1.7 million visitors, along with millions more attending outdoor events and online platforms. It hosted over 1,400 traditional musical and water puppet performances and more than 20 international music and art exchange programs with pavilions from the United States, Portugal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia, among others.

The Pavilion collaborated with ministries, localities, and businesses to organize a series of Vietnam Days/Weeks at EXPO 2025, including the Announcement Ceremony for the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025, Quang Ninh Week, Quang Nam Week, Binh Phuoc Week, Hanoi Days, Ninh Binh - The Heart of Heritage, and Vietnam National Brand Week at EXPO 2025.
Many events were also held for the Vietnamese community in Japan, such as the Vietnamese Traditional Costume Parade during Vietnam National Day at EXPO 2025, the “Mid-Autumn Reunion” program, the “Learning and Loving Vietnamese Together” exchange, and the exhibition “President Ho Chi Minh - Symbol of Peace and Friendship.”
In addition, more than 200 workshops, seminars, and interactive activities such as lacquer painting, toy figurine (to he) making, and traditional instrument demonstrations (K’long put, T’rung) drew large international audiences, offering rich, multisensory cultural experiences.
Through these creative and engaging activities, the Vietnam Pavilion has become a bridge for cultural dialogue, promoting values of peace and cooperation, and affirming Vietnam’s image as a modern, dynamic, creative, and culturally rich nation.
Affirming Vietnam’s Position on the Global Cultural Map
The success of the Vietnam Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan is not only a source of pride for the culture, sports, and tourism sector but also a vivid testament to the beauty of Vietnamese culture and people. It reflects the stature, spirit, and creativity of Vietnam in its journey of international integration.
The Silver Award for “Best Exhibition Design” and the Bronze Award for “Best Pavilion Team” are well-deserved recognitions of the tireless dedication and creativity of cultural professionals who are contributing to bringing Vietnam’s image closer to friends around the world.
These achievements not only mark Vietnam’s significant presence at a global event but also embody the philosophy that culture is both the spiritual foundation of society and a driving force for national development - a bridge for mutual understanding, cooperation, and sustainable growth among nations.
The accomplishments at EXPO 2025 contribute to building and spreading Vietnam’s cultural brand, enhancing its standing on the global cultural map, and opening new opportunities for international cooperation and exchange.
